Honouring the past, embracing the future.

As we embrace our future, UCalgary also honours its roots.

When MacKimmie Tower first opened in the 1960s, bell-bottoms and lava lamps were popular, and only six James Bond movies had been released!

Back then, long wooden tables and chairs were housed amid rows of book stacks for students to inhabit. Much has changed in the past half-century, but these historic tables and chairs have been lovingly restored for the new Hunter Student Commons.

Now, students are cramming for finals while sharing TikToks and watching Netflix. Generations of learning continues.
