Celebrate convocation in person this spring
This spring, the Class of 2022 will be joined by their friends, family and community members to celebrate convocation in person at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium.
From May 30 to June 3, the ÁůľĹÉ«ĚĂ will welcome the wider community to campus to recognize an exceptional group of graduates as they walk the stage. This is the first convocation since 2019 that will be open to guests.
“Graduation is a landmark moment in our students’ university experience, and we can’t wait to celebrate the hard work, ingenuity, and dedication that it took to get them here,” says UCalgary President Ed McCauley. “We’re also pleased to once again welcome the community of supporters who believed in these graduands throughout their university journey and cheered them on to the end.”
Convocation week will include eight ceremonies over five days, in celebration of the nearly 1,400 graduate students and 4,700 undergraduate students who will be conferred with 209 different degrees and designations. The full schedule of ceremonies can be found on the convocation website.
"Convocation represents an exciting milestone in every graduate's life and is an occasion to be celebrated,” says Chancellor Deborah Yedlin, who is overseeing her final convocation before passing the position to Jon Cornish on July 1. “We are thrilled to be welcoming graduates, faculty, staff, family and friends to the Jack Simpson Gymnasium to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2022 and welcome them into the UCalgary alumni family.”
Despite COVID-19 restrictions having been lifted — allowing the in-person event to take place once again — wearing a mask is strongly encouraged during convocation and free masks and hand sanitizer will be available throughout the area during the ceremonies.
For those unable to attend in person, a convocation livestream will also be available.
If you want to be part of the celebration, volunteers are still needed to fill a variety of roles during convocation including hood-pinning and degree distribution. Sign up now to help make convocation a success.Â
