Engineers Without Borders celebrates Fair Trade on campus

Events this week promote awareness for sustainable consumption

Students on the Fair Trade Team of the ɫ Engineers Without Borders chapter have organized a week to celebrate Fair Trade from March 25-28.

Currently working toward certifying the ɫ as a Fair Trade Campus, the Fair Trade Team hopes to promote a cultural awareness for sustainable consumption. There is a growing movement towards Fair Trade in campuses all over Canada, and we hope to contribute to establishing the university as a leader in sustainability.

Free fair trade tea and coffee will be handed out throughout the week at activities each day.

Tuesday Documentary Night
March 25, 5-7 p.m., ES 162

Held in conjunction with Hope 2 Opportunity, come enjoy some sustainability documentaries that highlight both food insecurity amongst coffee farmers and international water resource development. There will be free popcorn and Fair Trade coffee.

Waffle Wednesday
March 26, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., Sustainability Resource Centre (Science B)

Come grab a bite! Waffles made with 100 per cent Fair Trade ingredients will be handed out.

Thursday Discussion Panel
Thursday, March 27, 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m., MacHall Courtyard

Join a knowledgeable panel and have a meaningful conversation to learn about Fair Trade. Audience members will be given the opportunity to pose questions to the panelists.

Fair Trade Friday
Friday March 28, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

A Big Fair Trade Friday will take place at the Sustainability Resource Centre. Come for tea, coffee, and talk about your thoughts on Fair Trade! The Fair Trade Team will encourage people to pledge their support for fair trade by signing a banner outside the Office of Sustainability.
