In Memoriam: Tanya Degen
The Faculty of Law is mourning the loss of Tanya Degen, who passed away on May 22, 2018.
Originally from Barrhead, Alberta, Tanya joined the law school in 2008, and her welcoming smile greeted students, faculty, staff and visitors in the Dean’s office each day. She was recently promoted to Program Coordinator in the faculty, managing scheduling and scholarships, and supporting the Associate Deans and the Manager of Operations.
“Tanya was very proud of her new role and really enjoyed the extra challenges that came with it,” said Susan Marks, Manager, Operations at the law school. “She was a great asset to the team and we will miss her dearly.”
Tanya loved cats, the Minions, and going to the movies, and was always keen to talk to her colleagues about all three topics. Tanya had a talent in art and visual design, and loved the opportunity to use her talent whenever she could. Tanya also volunteered in the community with several organizations.
“On behalf of the university community, I offer our deepest condolences to Tanya’s family and friends,” said Ian Holloway, Dean of the Faculty of Law. “Her loss will be felt throughout our school.”
A funeral will take place at St. John’s Lutheran church, in Barrhead, on Friday June 1 at 1 p.m., with burial, then light lunch to follow.
A celebration of Tanya’s life is being organized by her family for her friends in Calgary. Details will be available soon.Â
