Nursing associate professor receives lifetime achievement award for work in spiritual health care
UCalgary Nursing’s Dr. Shane Sinclair, PhD’09, is now the youngest-ever recipient of the Canadian Association of Spiritual Care (CASC/ACSS) Lifetime Achievement Award, which acknowledges a CASC/ACSS member who has made a significant contribution to the profession and to the association.
An associate professor who joined the faculty in 2013, Sinclair has had an extraordinary 20-year career as a spiritual health practitioner, educator, researcher and advocate and, according to one of his award nominators, has already established himself as one of the world’s most respected authorities and leading researchers on the topic of compassion and spirituality and health.
“It is a huge honour and incredibly humbling to receive the Lifetime Achievement award from the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care at this stage of my career both as a certified spiritual health practitioner and as an academic conducting research in this area,” says Sinclair, who is also an adjunct assistant professor with the Cumming School of Medicine (CSM). Sinclair is also a member of the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute and the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute at the CSM. Â
