Register now for Safety and Wellness Week sessions
Risk’s fifth annual Safety and Wellness Week offers more than ever to UCalgary community members looking to get engaged with health and safety practices. Faculty, staff and students are invited to register for multiple Safety and Wellness Week events Sept. 16 to 19.
On top of the annual , which will certainly command high participation rates, two different keynote speaking events and two open sessions with Campus Security will also get students, faculty and staff involved. Rae Ann Aldridge, associate vice-president of the Risk portfolio, says this kind of campus engagement is an important function of Safety and Wellness Week.
“Our community plays a crucial role in safety and wellness at UCalgary,” she says. “We try to offer topics that will interest them so they will leave a keynote speaker, go back to work or class and start a dialogue about what they learned — relevant conversation is a great way to help strengthen our safety and wellness culture.”

From cyber and information security threats, to natural disasters, to the low likelihood / high impact hostile security threats like kidnapping and active assailants, the challenge can be daunting, especially for less experienced travellers and younger people like students. In this session, International SOS’ Canadian Security Director Paul Doucet will introduce a four-point framework for managing risks both at the individual and organization level. It all starts with defining what the "realistic" worst-case scenario is, by threat category and by location.
