Workshop set for May 11 on 5th area of focus in Growth Through Focus framework

A message from Teri Balser, provost and vice-president (academic)

Dear Campus Community,

Many of you attended the Congress or submitted feedback online related to our Growth Through Focus framework and provided important feedback. As your new provost and vice-president (academic), I am looking forward to engaging with all of you and building upon the thoughtful feedback received.

The “what we heard” report will be shared shortly, but we also want to take action right away in one critical area. As you may recall, the framework has three pillars and a number of focus areas that integrate across disciplines. You expressed interest in having an area that is more directly centred on issues and research related to social change and equity.

I share that interest, and I’m excited to work with you on this. To start, I’d like to invite any and all of you with interest to come together and explore what that fifth area of focus might look like. Toward that end, I’ll be facilitating a workshop session on May 11 to begin to define the parameters for it. Following that session your feedback will be incorporated and next steps will be mapped. But first steps first!

Please join me on:
Date: Tuesday, May 11, 2021
Time: 9 – 10:15 a.m.
Location: Zoom webinar

You can register for the workshop .

I hope you’ll come prepared to engage in a discussion/workshop on what the objectives and scope of the new area should be; how it will contribute to our university and our community — and how it can support us as a world-class research university.

I look forward to connecting with you on May 11!

Thank you,

Dr. Teri Balser
Provost and Vice-President (Academic)
