English Language Proficiency
All applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency for purposes of admission in one of the following ways: (a) Successful completion of at least three years of formal, full-time study (not less than three courses per semester) at an English secondary or post-secondary institution in an English-speaking country which the Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà recognizes as English language proficiency exempt; or (b) Graduation from a degree program offered by an accredited university in a country which the Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà recognizes as English language proficiency exempt; or (c) A mark of 75% or better on the Alberta English Language Arts 30-1 diploma examination (not the blended grade) OR a mark of 80% or equivalent letter grade or better in Alberta English Language Arts 30-1 (blended mark) or equivalent course from other Canadian provinces. Applicants may also satisfy the English Language Proficiency requirements by presenting one of the following: |

2 A minimum score of 550 on the paper-based and a minimum score of 5.0 on the Test of Written English (TWE) is also acceptable (except for the Faculty of Nursing or the Faculty of Education).
3 Applicants to the Faculty of Education's Bachelor of Education must present a minimum total score of 100 on the Internet-based as well as minimum score of 27 on the speaking and listening components.
4 Applicants to the Faculties of Law, Graduate Studies, Medicine (excluding applicants to the Bachelor of Community Rehabilitation or Bachelor of Health Sciences) or Veterinary Medicine should check English Language Proficiency requirements directly with those faculties.
5 Applicants to the Faculty of Education's Bachelor of Education must present two distinct requirements: the TOEFL iBT/computer-based/paper-based test (or MELAB) in addition to presenting a satisfactory score on the or the .
No student will be admitted unless this requirement has first been satisfied. Please note: Applicants must satisfy two separate and distinct English Language requirements for admission to the Áù¾ÅÉ«ÌÃ: 1. The English subject acceptable in lieu of Alberta English Language Arts 30-1 AND 2. The English Language Proficiency requirement. Note: Disabled students should contact the Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà Disability Resource Centre for information regarding alternative methods of evaluating the English proficiency of individuals who cannot take tests under standard conditions.
