The basic general admission requirement to the ����ɫ�� is Alberta Grade XII graduation, or equivalent, with required standing in five appropriate subjects.

Admission to all programs will be on a competitive basis and an average is normally calculated on five appropriate and approved subjects as detailed in A.2 Admission Requirements at the ����ɫ��.

Students presenting an approved option as their fifth subject must obtain a minimum average of 65.0 per cent on the remaining four subjects and an overall average which meets the current competitive requirement.

Applicants not able to present the required average or five subjects will not be admitted. Exceptions to this regulation are only made when applicants enter the University under the Adult Student policy.

The University reserves the right to prescribe additional examinations in cases where doubt exists concerning matriculation.

In addition to the general University admission requirements, each Faculty requires specific admission requirements. Faculty-specific requirements for all categories of admission (i.e., high school, transfer, etc.) can be found at: .

Early Admission for High School Students

An early offer of admission for Fall Term may be granted to students completing grades 10, 11, and 12 at a high school in Canada and who also achieve an average of 90 per cent or higher in subjects completed in grade 11. Early admission is based on final grades in four academic subjects to include English Language Arts and three other appropriate subjects. Applicants must submit their application for admission no later than December 15th and a transcript reporting final grades for all subjects completed in Grade 11 as well as their Grade 12 subject registration by January 15th. Early Admission offers are finalized when a transcript is received by the deadline of August 1 which reports that all prerequisite subjects required for the faculty or program as outlined below have been successfully completed and confirms graduation from high school.
Applicants who are not granted Early Admission will be considered for an offer of Standard Admission.

Standard Admission For High School Students

A standard offer of admission for Fall Session may be granted to above-average students in Canadian high schools seeking admission. Standard admission is based on final Grade 11 and at least two Grade 12 grades achieved on five subjects appropriate for entry to the desired program. Where both Grade 11 and Grade 12 final grades are available for a subject, the Grade 12 grade will be considered. For students attending schools operating on a linear system, admission will be based on mid-year grades.

Applicants must submit their application for admission no later than March 1 and a transcript reporting final grades for all subjects completed in Grade 11 and first term Grade 12 (or mid-year grades for school operating on a linear system) as well as their second term Grade 12 subject registration by April 1. Standard admission will be granted if the applicant presents a specified average over the five appropriate subjects with no grade below 60 per cent in any subject. 

Qualified high school students who wish to be considered for standard admission should self-report their subjects and grades directly on the Application for Admission. Alternatively, students can submit the application as soon as possible and update their subject and grade information by logging onto their myUofC account at , opening the “Academic” tab and clicking on "Change UGRD application” under “Admissions/Personal Info” menu. Changes can be made until March 1.

Standard Admission offers are conditional. When final grades are available for all Grade 12 subjects, students must meet all prerequisite subject requirements. Students who fail to meet this requirement will have their admission and registration cancelled. If official transcripts verifying admissibility and high school graduation are not received by August 1, admission will be rescinded.

Applicants who are not granted Standard Admission will have their admissibility determined upon receipt of official transcripts of final grades, if space if available. Applicants who are granted standard admission to their second program choice but who meet the admission requirements and final admission average for their first program choice, will be admitted to their first program choice if space is available.

• Any International Baccalaureate (IB) or Advanced Placement (AP) Subjects
• Biology 20 or 30
• Chemistry 20 or 30
• Computing Science, Intermediate Level (5 credits) or Advanced Level (5 credits) Career and Technology Series
• Fine Arts Subjects* (Art 20 or 30 or 21 or 31, Choral Music 20 or 30, General Music 20 or 30, Instrumental Music 20 or 30, Drama 20 or 30, Dance 25 or 35)
• Language or Language and Culture Courses at the 20 or 30 level
• Mathematics 20-1 or 30-1
• Mathematics 20-2 or 30-2
• Mathematics 31
• Physics 20 or 30
• Science 20 or 30
• Social Studies 20-1 or 30-1

Approved Options:

• Other five-credit 20- or 30-level courses, excluding Special Projects 30.
• Three-credit courses: two three-credit 20- or 30-level subjects can be combined to fulfil ONE requirement. Subjects at the 20 level and 30 level CANNOT be combined to satisfy a subject requirement.
• One-credit courses: five intermediate or five advanced credits in Career and Technology Studies (CTS) can be used to fulfil ONE requirement. Intermediate and Advanced Credits CANNOT be combined to satisfy a subject requirement.

1. Applicants who complete required subjects during Summer 2015 cannot be considered for admission.
