Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSc in Eng)
Geomatics engineers ask questions such as: How can we position autonomous vehicles? How should location data for natural resources, healthcare and transportation be collected and managed? How can aerial and satellite images be captured and used to observe climate change?
Geomatics engineering is an information technology discipline that deals with the acquisition, modelling, analysis and management of spatial data. Geomatics engineers work in diverse teams in a discipline that is at the intersection of electrical, civil and mechanical engineering, math, physics, geography and law. Geomatics is one of the fastest-growing information technology fields, which means the techniques and skills you’ll gain will be in high demand within a wide range of real-world work environments. While the program requires a good understanding of math, physics and computer programing, much of your learning will occur through practical exercises using the latest industry-standard technologies.
This program is fully accredited by both the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board and the Canadian Board of Examiners for Professional Surveyors. Like other engineering programs, it features a common first-year, which consists of 10 courses in mathematics, sciences, computing, engineering principles, communications and design. These courses will provide you with a solid foundation for your engineering training, and introduce you to a variety of engineering disciplines. You'll apply for admission specifically to the geomatics engineering program at the end of your first year.
Polytechnic transfer pathway
Students with an approved diploma in geomatics engineering technology can earn their BSc in Geomatics Engineering in just three years through our polytechnic transfer pathway.
As a geomatics engineer, you’ll have global opportunities to work in areas such as geospatial information systems, aerospace and automotive autonomy, land surveying, remote sensing and more. A degree in engineering can also be a stepping-stone to graduate studies or a professional degree such as law, medicine, veterinary medicine or architecture.

Schulich School of Engineering is a bit of a hotbed for geomatics in North America. The professors and instructors are top of the line. And there’s also really practical hands-on work experience with the technologies that we’re using out in industry. You can work in an office, you can work on a boat, you can work on a plane, maybe you’ll be doing kind of traditional survey work, satellite navigation, helping cars drive themselves. You really can be at the forefront of whatever you want to be​.
