The Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Lille is a highly-regarded political science institution located in northern France, just 1 hour from Paris, 40 minutes from Brussels and less than 2 hours from London.
This privileged geographical position, enhanced by its high-quality transport network, makes Lille a real gateway to Europe.ÌýThough it was founded in 1991, Sciences Po Lille has become one of France's "Grandes Écoles" (elite schools) and is one of the most selective French universities. Sciences Po Lille opened their new campus in January 2017 in the latin quarter of Lille, improving accessibility and the vitality of study spaces on campus. Lille's Model UN association is currently the top association in France (13th in the world), and the university itself is very internationally-oriented, with a student population of 2,000 students including about 250 international students.Ìý

Course requirements:
In Europe, full-time course load is typically 30 ECTS (European credits), and exchange students are typically expected to take 24-30 credits per semester. Note: 30 ECTS is the expected course load if you wish to complete the certificate program.Ìý6 ECTS =Ìý3 UCalgary unitsÌý(1 half-course).Ìý
The amount of credits each course is worth corresponds to the workload/contact hours, and can vary from 1-30 ECTS per course, so please be mindful of this in your selection.
The academic year is divided intoÌý. The first semester runs from early September to mid January and the second semester runs from mid-January to late May. It is usually possible to finish the Fall semester in December. However, attendance at the orientation session running a week or so before classes is required.Ìý

Please Note: French visa applications for Canadians may require travel to the Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa VFS Visa Center to submit the documentation and take biometrics as needed within 3 months before departure to France, so students may not have access to their passports during that time.Ìý

Costs
Exchange students pay their tuition and academic fees to the Áù¾ÅÉ«ÌÃ. Other expenses are paid directly to the service provider. Also, remember to include things like visas, insurance, vaccinations etc in your budget planning.
Sciences Po Lille estimates that you should have at least €800 per month budgeted for accommodation (generally between €250-€400 per month for residences, and €250-€650 per month for self-arranged accommodation), food, transit, and leisure.ÌýAlso, don't forget toÌýinclude things like visas, insurance, vaccinations etc in your budget planning.Ìý

Funding
Did you know that you can take your UCalgary funding with you on exchange?ÌýÌýÌý
Since you remain a degree seeking student at UCalgary while on exchange you remain eligible for anyÌýÌýyou are eligible to receive from the university as well asÌý.Our office administers several awards, including the Global Access Fund (based on a funding-first model where students apply prior to committing to a global learning program) and the (students apply after being accepted to a global learning program; the amount varies year-to-year as the money is split among chosen recipients). Students may only receive these awards once. Please see the funding page, linked below, for more information.
All students in France who rent housing with a contract, regardless of national origin, are eligible for a National Housing Aid from the ‘CAF’, Caisse d’Allocations Familiales. For the subsidy application, please make sure to bring a copy of your birth certificate.
The E. Catherine Barclay Scholarship is a generous award of $7500 granted to one outstanding full-time student, registered in any faculty at UCalgary, who has beenÌýaccepted by us to study for a full academic year (French-taught courses only) on one of our official exchange programs.

This exchange is open to regular, full-time students in any faculty at UCalgary, who have completed at least 1 full year (10 courses) at the post-secondary level, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 (B-).
For English courses, while advanced French is not required, all students should have some basic knowledge of French and be able to independently navigate websites and forms written in French.
For courses in French,Ìýapplicants must have a command of French at theÌýÌýaccording to the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR) at a minimum, or have completed at least two 300-level or above courses in French.ÌýCertification of language proficiency may be required.
Students do have the opportunity to take French language courses during their stay.
