Class of 2023: New UCalgary scholarship encourages Muslim students to pursue legal education

When Saliha Haq, JD'23, started law school, she was the only hijab-wearing student in her class. 

"While there were a few other Muslim students in my class, I saw a need to increase the diversity of the student body and the number of marginalized groups in the Faculty of Law."

To achieve her goal, Haq created the to encourage Muslim applicants and applicants belonging to marginalized groups to apply to law school and to make legal education a little easier for students belonging to these groups. 

Haq's dedication to building the diversity of the law school earned her the , which is presented to a graduating student who has made a significant contribution to the understanding or resolution of social or human rights issues while acquiring a legal education.
