Undergraduate Awards

General Information and Policies

Undergraduate Awards are offered to students continuing in an undergraduate program at the U of C. There are scholarships and bursaries for students enrolled in any undergraduate program, as well as many awards directed to students studying within specific faculties and programs. There are two types of undergraduate awards:
A Nominated award is based on academic merit and other specific criteria and is normally designated to a specific faculty.
A Competitive award is based on academic merit. If stated in the conditions of the award, other criteria such as extracurricular activities, leadership involvement, contribution to community or campus life and financial need will be considered.

General Information

Bachelor of Education (Master of Teaching Program) students are eligible to apply for Undergraduate Awards designated to the Faculty of Education at the U of C.

A.D. Winspear Prize Friends of  A.D. Winspear
Established in memory of the late A.D. Winspear, former professor of Classics		 1 up to $200 1 Offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student in the Department of Greek and Roman Studies.

3 Must have completed at least three full-course equivalents during the previous Fall/Winter Sessions
A.T.J. Cairns Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship Estate of Professor A.T.J. Cairns 6 up to $2000 1 Offered annually to continuing undergraduate students who have declared either a major or minor in English.
2 Selections are made by the Department of English based on academic merit in Creative Writing in English, English Literature, and related literary fields.
3 To be eligible, recipients must be registered full time but need not be carrying a full course load.
A.W.R. Carrothers Scholarship Students' Union, 六九色堂
Established in commemoration of the official installation of Dr. A.W.R. Carrothers as president and vice-chancellor of the 六九色堂 (1969)		 1 $500 1 Offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student in any faculty who has completed at least one year at the 六九色堂.

Agrium Inc. Award Agrium Inc. and the Faculty of Social Sciences to promote linkages between U of C and Argentina 1 $2000 1 Offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

4 Preference given to a student who has completed coursework that focuses on energy and the environment
5 Renewable in third and fourth year providing minimum grade point average of 2.60 on courses completed in the previous academic year based on a minimum course load of 3 full-course equivalents taken over Fall and Winter Sessions.
Alastair H. Ross Memorial Scholarships Mrs. Joan Ross and family and friends of Alastair H. Ross 3 up to $2500 1 Offered annually to continuing undergraduate students entering third or fourth year year in the Haskayne School of Business.

Alberta Chapter ACI Prize Alberta Chapter of the American Concrete Institute 1 $350 1 Offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student entering fourth year Civil Engineering and registering in ENCI 513: Properties of Concrete and Masonry, and ENCI 555: Structural Concrete Design
2 Demonstrated an interest in concrete construction

5 Completed the third year of Civil Engineering at the 六九色堂.
Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association Scholarships Alberta Hotel Association 2 $2500 1 Offered annually to undergraduate students entering the Bachelor of Hotel and Resort Management program. Both full- and part-time students who have a minimum grade point average of 3.00 will be eligible
2 Academic standing in a two-year diploma program in the field of Hotel and Restaurant Management (or equivalent)
Alberta Land Surveyors' Association Scholarship Alberta Land Surveyors驴 Association, Edmonton 1 $2500 1 Offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student entering fourth year in the Department of Geomatics Engineering and must be enrolled in ENGO 579: Survey Law and ENGO 581: Land Use Planning

Alberta Printmakers' Society Award Alberta Printmakers' Society 1 $100 1 Offered annually to an undergraduate student in the Department of Art , specializing in Printmaking who must be registered full time but need not be carrying a full course load. Graduating students are also eligible
2 Must have completed at least two 300-level Printmaking courses

4 Portfolio of prints which must be submitted to the Area Co-ordinator by April 15.
Alberta Public Works Association Bursary Alberta Chapter Canadian Public Works Association 1 $1000 1 Offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student entering third or fourth year Civil Engineering

Alberta Retired Teachers' Association Award Alberta Retired Teachers' Association 1 up to $500 1 Offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student who has completed first year of the BEd (Master of Teaching program).

3 Must have work experience or extra-curricular activities involving children or teenagers

Alberta Union of Provincial Employees Undergraduate Bursaries Alberta Union of Provincial Employees 2 up to $500 1 Offered annually to continuing undergraduate students in any faculty who have completed at least one year

4 Member in good standing (two consecutive years of service) of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees or the sons, daughters, legal wards or spouses
5 Dependent of retired or deceased member within a period of 10 years of retirement or death of  the member (dependent must be under the age of 25)

Allan Torvi Memorial Award Family, friends and colleagues of Allan Torvi 1 up to $1000 1 Offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student entering the final year in the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.
2 Based on a demonstration of those qualities exemplified by Allan Torvi Demonstrated active involvement in student activities, campus organizations and/or volunteer groups

Andrew C.L. Sims Scholarship Friends and colleagues of Andrew C.L. Sims to recognize his contribution as chair of the Alberta Labour Relations Board and the Public Service Employee Relations Board 1 $1000 1 Offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student entering fourth year in the Haskayne School of Business with a Human Resources and Organizational Dynamics concentration
2 Awarded on overall grade point average to a student enrolled in or has completed at least two of the following three courses: HROD 405: Labour Relations, HROD 449: Arbitration of Employment Disputes, or HROD 493: Business Negotiations

Andrew Spinney Memorial Scholarship Caroline Troy
Established in memory of Andrew Spinney (1964-1997) who graduated with distinction from the 六九色堂 in 1987.  The award is established in recognition of his commitment to engineering excellence.		 1 up to $1200 1 Offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student entering third or fourth year in Electrical Engineering.

Andy Younger Award in Engineering Estate of Andew Hunter Younger 1 up to $1000 1 Offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student in the Schulich School of Engineering.
2 To be eligible, recipients must be a member of a 六九色堂 Dinos Athletic Team.
3 The award is based on the highest academic standing.
Anna and Donald Drysdale Memorial Scholarship Mrs. Henrietta Weyland
Established in in memory of her sister and brother in-law.		 2 up to $1250 1 Offered annually to continuing undergraduate students with a major in History.
2 Preference is given to candidates who have declared an area of concentration in Military-Diplomatic History or those who have taken at least two half courses in Military-Diplomatic History and attained a minimum B+ grade in each of those courses.
3 To be eligible students must be registered full time, but need not be carrying a full course load.

Established in memory of Dr. Anthony Petti, prof. of English at the U of C and founder/director of the Calgary Renaissance Singers & Players, to encourage studies in two of his areas of notable scholarship and creativity: Renaissance Literature and Music		 1 up to $1300 1 Offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student in any faculty.
2 Demonstrated interest and ability in the performance and/or study of Early Music.

Associated Engineering Award Associated Engineering Ltd.
Associated Engineering is a Canadian, employee-owned, consulting engineering firm which has provided water, infrastructure, transportation and environmental engineering services to local, national, and international clients for over 60 years.		 1 $3000 1 Offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student in the majors listed above in the Schulich School of Engineering.
2 The award is based on academic merit
3 To be eligible the student must demonstrate initiative and leadership qualities through participation in extra-curricular activities within the community, working life or the university.
4 The recipient must be interested in pursuing a career in consulting engineering.
5 The student must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Associates of the Faculty of Fine Arts 25th Anniversary Scholarships Associates of the Faculty of Fine Arts 7 $1000 1 Offered annually to continuing undergraduate students in each of  Art, Drama, Music and Dance.

Athletic Therapy Entrance Awards Faculty of Kinesiology (Campus Recreation) 2 $500 1 Offered annually to continuing Kinesiology undergraduate students entering the Athletic Therapy Major
2 Based on admission average to the Athletic Therapy Program as calculated by the Faculty of Kinesiology
3 Students need not be registered full time, but must be enrolled in at least two half courses per session Payment is held until the students have completed their course work at Mount Royal College and return to the 六九色堂
Atkin Memorial Scholarship (Order of the Eastern Star) Grand Chapter of Alberta, Order of the Eastern Star from the Atkin family 1 up to $2600 1 Offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student in any faculty who has completed at least one year.

4 Eastern Star member, sons or daughters of Eastern Star members or direct grandchildren of Eastern Star members.
