Undergraduate Awards
General Information and Policies
Undergraduate Awards are offered to students continuing in an undergraduate program at the U of C. There are scholarships and bursaries for students enrolled in any undergraduate program, as well as many awards directed to students studying within specific faculties and programs. There are two types of undergraduate awards:
A Nominated award is based on academic merit and other specific criteria and is normally designated to a specific faculty.
A Competitive award is based on academic merit. If stated in the conditions of the award, other criteria such as extracurricular activities, leadership involvement, contribution to community or campus life and financial need will be considered.
- Eligibility: In order to be considered for scholarships, students must normally present a minimum GPA of 3.20 on four full-course equivalents/24 units in the previous year (Fall and Winter Terms); to be considered for bursaries, students must normally present a minimum GPA of 2.60 on four full-course equivalents/24 units in the previous academic year (Fall and Winter Terms).
Continuing Undergraduate students must have successfully completed their most recent Fall and Winter Terms at the Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà as a full-time student and must be continuing their undergraduate studies in the upcoming Fall Term.
Bachelor of Education (Master of Teaching Program) students who are entering or continuing in this program may be eligible for Undergraduate Awards designated to the Faculty of Education. Students entering the Master of Teaching Program are eligible for awards based on their admission average; financial need may also be considered. Students continuing in the program are eligible for awards based on financial need.
Co-op students are eligible and will be considered based on grades in the appropriate terms of their work/academic term sequence.
Internship students are eligible and will be considered based on grades earned in the Fall and Winter Terms prior to their internship. Students who are on a 12 - 16 month internship program and who wish to apply for Competitive Undergraduate Awards need to apply for awards just prior to returning to an academic session at the U of C.
Exchange students who participate in an exchange that involves only one term of study are eligible to apply for Undergraduate Awards. Only courses that transfer to the U of C will be included in scholarship averages. Students taking an exchange program of eight months (two semesters of study) are not eligible to apply for Undergraduate Awards; they are eligible to apply for Transfer Awards upon their return to U of C. - Requirements: The payment of monetary awards, with the exception of certain prizes and graduating scholarships, is contingent upon the student maintaining full‑time status in the immediate Fall and Winter terms. Unless otherwise stated in the conditions, the recipient must be in actual full‑time attendance at the University of Calgary before receiving the awards. Payment of tuition and fees is the first charge against such awards. If the value of an award is stated as Atuition and fees,@ it is understood not to include differential fees. Supplemental, deferred and special deferred examinations or term work may affect eligibility for certain awards.
- Application: The Competitive Undergraduate Awards Online Application is available in the PeopleSoft Student Center through the myUofC portal. Nominated Undergraduate Awards do not require an application as nomination is made automatically by the faculty.
- Deadline: Submit the Competitive Undergraduate Awards Online Application on or before August 1.
- Notification: Successful applicants will be notified by email in early December.
