2.1 Advising and Program Information

The Arts and Science Undergraduate Programs Office provides program administration, information and advising for all programs offered by the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Science. In addition to the Arts Degree Advisors in the Undergraduate Programs Office, there are Subject Advisors in the various Department and Programs Office to assist students.

For guidance on where to get program advice, students may consult the Faculty of Arts website under in addition to the following information.

Arts Degree Advisors

Arts Degree Advisors assist undergraduate students in building their overall degree programs. For example, Degree Advisors provide advice students on:

  • Overall programs
  • Contextual (big-picture) questions about the Major Field
  • Contextual (big-picture) questions about honours programs
  • Graduation checks and confirmation
  • Graduation guarantee
  • Academic standing
  • After-degree program evaluation
  • Honours applications and admission

Arts Degree Advisors serve students from the Arts and Science Undergraduate Programs Office (UPO).

Subject Advisors

Subject Advisors deal with more specific inquiries related to courses and course content within a student’s major.  For example, these advisors assist students with:

  • Course-related questions
  • Details about the Major Field
  • Details about honours programs
  • Transfer-credit assessment
  • Overloads
  • Course time conflicts
  • Credit by special assessment
  • Course audits
  • Grade appeals
  • Third attempts at a course

Subject Advisors work closely with specific Departments and Programs and are most often located in Department Offices or the Interdisciplinary Programs Offices.  Fine Arts Degree Advisors deal with both details and overall programs in Art, Dance, Drama and Music.  Contact information is provided for each Major and Minor program under 4. Other Academic Assistance

Enrolment Services

Enrolment Services helps with registration issues and problems, fee payments, awards, financial aid, admissions questions, change of program administration, visiting and exchange students, open studies, transcripts, letters of permission, deferred exams, deferred term work, etc.
