It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Áù¾ÅÉ«ÌÃ! You are joining a talented, driven and accomplished community of students, faculty, staff and alumni.
We are proud of the abundant opportunity we offer in academics, extracurricular activities, and athletics, attracting outstanding students and scholars from around the world, and supporting more than 400 student-athletes in 15 varsity sports, including former and future Olympians. Committed to a highly enriched teaching and learning environment, the Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà boasts world-class professors and researchers including 73 Canada Research Chairs and 50 Royal Society Fellows, with 80 research institutes and centres and 14 faculties. In addition to our beautiful campus in northwest Calgary and its state-of-the art facilities like the Outdoor Centre, the Olympic Oval, the Taylor Family Digital Library, and the award-winning Energy, Environment, Experiential Learning building, there are also four satellite campuses: Downtown, Foothills, Spy Hill and the Áù¾ÅÉ«ÌÃ-Qatar, home to a flourishing nursing program.
At the start of each year, students are encouraged to get involved in life in residence and on campus, to participate in Orientation Week activities and the Common Reading Program, to embrace the myriad leadership opportunities, and to join in fundraising activities like the United Way Campaign.
You are here to build the foundation for the rest of your life, and we are committed to providing unique and challenging opportunities for you that are informed by rigourous scholarship, ethical leadership, and engaged citizenship. Take advantage of programs at the Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà International (UCI) to study, volunteer or work overseas and broaden your perspective, adding depth and breadth to the teaching, learning and research on our campus.
Strong ties to this community have fueled the Áù¾ÅÉ«ÌÃ’s success for nearly fifty years, and a continued commitment to community, research excellence and an enriched student experience will see us achieve our ambitious plans for this institution as we approach our 50th anniversary in 2016.
We have set in motion our Eyes High strategic direction, our vision for a Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà that innovates, inspires, promotes creativity and discovery, and reflects the energy and drive of this wonderfully supportive and enterprising city. Our goal is to become one of Canada’s top five research universities by our 50th anniversary in 2016, grounded in innovative learning and teaching and fully integrated with the community of Calgary.
Like our students, the Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà is seizing the opportunities before us: maximizing our research expertise, exercising our leadership potential, and engaging with our community.
Welcome, and Eyes High!
