The mandate of the Native Centre at the Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà is to provide a culturally appropriate environment that encourages and supports the success of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students in their pursuit of knowledge and higher education. The Native Centre provides academic, personal, and cultural support services and programs to prospective and current First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students, and offers a welcoming and supportive learning environment for the whole campus community.
Services:
The Native Centre offers assistance with admissions advising, registration, post-secondary sponsorship information, volunteerism, employment, and personalized support and referrals. The Native Centre provides advising and assistance for the following:
- Admissions information
- General program advising
- Online University systems available to student through MyUofC
- Course registration assistance
- Academic processes and calendar information
- Aboriginal student funding sources
- Campus-wide services
- Peer tutoring and remedial support
- Cultural and spiritual advising
Programs:
The Native Centre offers a variety of culturally-based, community orientated programs for current and prospective students.
- NAPI Ambassador Aboriginal Youth Outreach Program
- LYNX: Aboriginal Student Career and Employment Program
- ASSERT: Aboriginal Student Retention Program
- Orientation week
- Aboriginal Student Access Program (ASAP)
- Old Sun Community College Academic Outreach Program
Cultural Events:
The Native Centre is dedicated to supporting and promoting the beauty, vitality and diversity of Aboriginal cultures within the University community. Our cultural events help to build and enrich the diversity of the whole campus community, and include the following:
- Indigenous Knowledge Lecture Series
- Pipe ceremonies
- Social gatherings and potlucks
- Cree Grandmothers' Tea Ceremonies
- Annual Graduation Banquet and Pow-wow
Facilities:
The Native Centre is located in MacEwen Student Centre and includes great spaces for students and the campus community, including the following:
- Computer Lab
- The Red Lodge, Student Lounge
- First Nations Student Association (FNSA) Offices
- Ceremonial Room
