I’m Jarett Henry – president of your Students’ Union (SU). I was elected by students like you to help make your time at the Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà (U of C) the best it can be. Our vision is to ensure that undergraduate students have the best possible university experience and that we are the definitive student voice on campus. We’re here to make sure that your voice gets heard.
We exist to serve and represent you - we offer programs and activities that contribute to your well-being, academic success and rich extra-curricular life. We represent your needs by advocating on your behalf to the university and government.
Your SU is the steward, manager and operator of MacEwan Student Centre (a.k.a. MSC or MacHall). It is one of the busiest student centres in the country and it’s the hub of social and community activities on campus, providing with space, programs, products and services so you can study, eat, drink, meet with friends, enjoy some entertainment and have some fun. We believe that the student experience involves more than just the classroom.
As well as managing the building, your SU runs a number of businesses in MacHall and all proceeds from these student-owned ventures help keep your student fees some of the lowest in the country and are reinvested directly into SU programs, services and events. We offer student-priced printing and book consignment services at Bound and Copied. Good food and entertainment can be found at The Den/Black Lounge and there are fantastic concerts in our award-winning concert venues. Drop by Stor, it stays open late for everything you need, like newspapers, transit tickets, and phone cards, not to mention nutritional powerhouses like chocolate, pop, chips, and ice cream. Or choose from a selection of organic produce, yogurts and other tasty snacks. As landlord, we also bring you a range of retail and service businesses and the popular food court. The SU also operates the MacEwan Conference and Event Centre which rents out function space to both university and off-campus clients and provides free meeting and event space to SU-sanctioned clubs.
Make the most of your experience at the U of C by getting out and getting involved. Join one of our more than 300 student clubs, or check out the SU’s Volunteer Services for opportunities to volunteer around campus, around town or around the world to make a difference and gain experience. Attend some great events and concerts, get involved in research or explore the range of programs and services your SU offers. There is something for everyone – no matter what your interests.
We are committed to the quality of education, the quality of student life and the affordability and accessibility of post-secondary education. We provide a unified voice to lobby and advocate for the entire undergraduate student community.
Need some financial assistance? Check out our academic support programs including scholarships, grants, bursaries, travel and conference funding, and opportunities to get involved in research.
