I.1 General Principles

1. Reappraisals of graded term work and academic assessments occur at the department/faculty level that originated those decisions.

2. Reappraisals of term work are generally settled at the department/faculty level. The reappraisal process is outlined in Sections I.2 (Reappraisal of Graded Term Work) and I.3 (Reappraisal of an Academic Assessment).Ìý

3. Students are responsible to present their arguments as effectively and as fully as possible. Mere dissatisfaction with a grade is not a valid reason for requesting a reappraisal.

4. Appeals of thesis examinations or candidacy components that do not result in a student being required to immediately withdraw are considered to be appeals of academic assessments, and are made to the Faculty of Graduate Studies Faculty Appeals Committee as described in the Graduate Calendar. Graduate students wanting to appeal a thesis examination decision or candidacy component decision that does not require them to immediately withdraw must submit their appeal to the Faculty of Graduate Studies Faculty Appeals Committee. Any other graded term work or academic assessment appeals submitted by graduate students must be submitted as described in Sections I (Reappraisal of Graded Term Work and Academic Assessments (final grades)) and J (Student Appeals to the University Appeals Committee and the University Appeals Tribunal) of this calendar.
