JD Program Requirements for Graduation

Course Requirements

Students must complete a total of 98 units in Law courses, including achieving a satisfactory performance (a "C-", or higher, or "CR") in the following courses:

Additional Requirements

Students must achieve satisfactory performance ("C-", or higher) in a course that meets the following requirements. See the Faculty of Law website ()聽for more information.

  • Upper-Year Writing
  • International
  • Theoretical Perspectives

Note that all upper-year (i.e., second and third year) JD students must register for at least 12 units per term, to a maximum of 18, and for at least 31 units per year, to a maximum of 36.

Foreign Trained Lawyers Program Post-Bachelor's Certificate Requirements for Graduation

Students must complete the following 24 units of course work achieving a satisfactory performance (a 鈥淐-鈥, or higher, or 鈥淐R鈥):

Subject to availability, students may take one Law course in addition to the FTLP requirements and pay no additional tuition.

If the National Committee on Accreditation's assessment requires additional courses on top of the 24 units required in the FTLP plus the one optional course, students in the FTLP may take up to a maximum of 3 additional Law courses upon payment of the applicable per-course tuition fee (see the program's fees chart in the Undergraduate Tuition and General Fees). Any additional courses are subject to availability, and must be approved by the academic director of the FTLP and the Associate Dean Academic of the Faculty of Law. The additional courses are: Law 402, 404, 406, 505, 507, 509, 515, 527, 575, and 598.

Time Limit

Students are expected to complete the FTLP post-bachelor鈥檚 certificate in 13 months. The maximum time allowed to complete the FTLP requirements and any additional courses is 3 years.
