Junior Course
Sustainability Studies 201       Exploring Sustainability
Sustainability, both in theory and practice is complex and challenging, and offers a lens for understanding the world and our place in it as global citizens. This course will present a wide range of interdisciplinary perspectives from the local to the global scale on the critically important concepts that include food systems, global poverty, gender equity, water scarcity, land stewardship, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Credit for Sustainability Studies 201 and University 207 will not be allowed.

Senior Courses
Sustainability Studies 401       Global Sustainability
We rely daily on global resources and services, and the stresses and impacts of local consumptions are felt disproportionately around the world. This course gives a deeper understanding of global sustainability focusing on three main parts: understanding sustainability, measuring and researching sustainability, and doing sustainability.

Prerequisite(s):
Sustainability Studies 201 or University 207.
Antirequisite(s):
Credit for Sustainability Studies 401 and University 401.30 will not be allowed.

Sustainability Studies 403       Research Methods in Sustainability
In order to tackle real world sustainability challenges, we must engage in them directly. Students participate in applied research projects that link sustainability foundations and principles from Sustainable Studies 201 and 401 to work with stakeholders directly to address their needs on campus, in the community and beyond.

Sustainability Studies 501       Seminar: The Theory and Practice of Sustainability
Emphasizes reflection and integration through experiential learning experiences from research projects and applied problem solving. Students will apply the lessons learned through reflective writing, presentations, case studies, and career goals development.

Prerequisite(s):
Sustainability Studies 403 and enrolment in the embedded Certificate in Sustainability Studies.

Sustainability Studies 503       Directed Studies
Supervised independent study of a specific topic.
Course Hours:
3 units; (0-6)
Prerequisite(s):
Consent from the Academic Co-ordinator of Sustainability Studies.
Notes:
Students should contact the Academic Co-ordinator of Sustainability Studies, at least two weeks before the start of classes to arrange an independent study course.
