Academic Schedule

The University operates four terms during the academic year:

Fall Term	13 weeks	September to December
Winter Term	13 weeks	January to April
Spring Term	6 to 7 weeks	May to June
Summer Term	6 weeks	July to August

JULY, 2012

1 Sunday	Canada Day, University closed.
2 Monday	Canada Day (Observed), University Closed. No lectures.
3 Tuesday	SUMMER TERM LECTURES BEGIN. First-term and six-week courses.
5 Thursday	Last day for registration and change of registration for Summer Term six-week and first-term half courses (without pre-session study). No fee refunds for withdrawals from Summer Term six-week courses and first-term half courses after this date.
13 Friday	Fee payment deadline for Summer Term fees for six-week courses and first-term half courses.
23 Monday	Last day of first-term lectures in Summer Term. Last day to withdraw with permission from first-term courses in Summer Term.
24 Tuesday	First-term final examinations for Summer Term. Mid-term break for six week courses. No lectures.
25 Wednesday	Lectures begin for the second-term of Summer Term.
27 Friday	Last day for registration and change of registration for second-term Summer Term (without pre-session study). No fee refunds for withdrawals from Summer Term second-term half courses after this date.

AUGUST, 2012

6Ìý²Ñ´Ç²Ô»å²¹²â	Alberta Heritage Day. University closed. No lectures.
15 Wednesday	Last day to submit Application for Degree for all degrees and diplomas to be conferred at Fall Convocation.
16 Thursday	SUMMER TERM LECTURES END Last day to withdraw with permission from full courses, half courses given over a six-week period and second-term half courses in Summer Term.Â Last day to withdraw with permission from thirteen-week courses (Multi-term) offered from MayÂ 9 to August 16.
17-18 Friday-Saturday	Final Examinations for Summer Term except first-term courses. Final examinations for thirteen-week courses.

SEPTEMBER, 2012

3Ìý²Ñ´Ç²Ô»å²¹²â	Labour Day. University closed.
4Ìý°Õ³Ü±ð²õ»å²¹²â	Fall Term begins.
4-8Ìý°Õ³Ü±ð²õ»å²¹²â-³§²¹³Ù³Ü°ù»å²¹²â	Block Week.
8Ìý³§²¹³Ù³Ü°ù»å²¹²â	Last day to withdraw with permission from Fall Term Block Week courses.
10Ìý²Ñ´Ç²Ô»å²¹²â	FALL TERM LECTURES BEGIN (except Block Week courses).
21 Friday	Last day to drop full courses and Fall term half courses. No refunds for full courses (Multi-term) or Fall Term half courses after this date.
24 Monday	Last day to add or swap full courses and Fall term half courses. Last day for change of registration from audit to credit or credit to audit.
28Ìý¹ó°ù¾±»å²¹²â	Fee payment deadline for Fall term full and half courses. Course-based degrees: Deadline for departments to notify the Faculty of Graduate Studies that all requirements are met for course-based degrees for November 2012 Convocation. Thesis-based degrees: Last day for final masterâ€™s theses and doctoral dissertations to be submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies for November 2012 Convocation. All graduate students: Last day to submit your theses/dissertations to the Faculty of Graduate office or complete all degree requirements to not have fees charged for Fall 2012.

OCTOBER, 2012

Thanksgiving Day, University closed (except Taylor Family Digital Library, Law, Medical, Gallagher and Business Libraries). No lectures.

NOVEMBER, 2012

10-13 Saturday-Tuesday	Reading Days. No lectures.
12 Monday	Remembrance Day (Observed). University Closed (except Taylor Family Digital Library, Law, Medical, Gallagher and Business Libraries). No lectures.
13Ìý°Õ³Ü±ð²õ»å²¹²â	Fall Convocation.

DECEMBER, 2012

7Ìý¹ó°ù¾±»å²¹²â	FALL TERM LECTURES END. (For practicum students, the length of the term may be extended.) Last day to withdraw with permission from Fall Term half courses.
10-19Ìý²Ñ´Ç²Ô»å²¹²â-°Â±ð»å²Ô±ð²õ»å²¹²â	Fall Term Final Examinations and consolidated end-of-term tests in full courses.
25-31 Tuesday-Monday	Holiday Observance. Term Break. University Closed.

JANUARY, 2013

1 Tuesday	New Year's Day. University Closed.
2 Wednesday	Winter Term Begins Lectures begin in Block Week courses.
2-5; 7 Wednesday to Saturday; Monday	Block Week.
7 Monday	Last day to withdraw with permission from Block Week courses.
8 Tuesday	WINTER TERM LECTURES BEGIN (except Block Week courses).
18 Friday	Last day to drop Winter Term half courses. No fee refunds for Winter Term half courses after this date.
21 Monday	Last day to add or swap Winter Term half courses. Last day to change registration from audit to credit or credit to audit.
25 Friday	Fee payment deadline for Winter Term fees. Spring and Summer term Schedule of Classes will be available mid-January. All graduate students: Last day to submit your theses/dissertations to the Faculty of Graduate Studies office or to complete all degree requirements in order to avoid fees being charged for Winter 2013. FEBRUARY, 2013

1 Wednesday	Last day to submit Application for Degree for all degrees and diplomas to be conferred at May and Spring (June) Convocations (see Graduation in Academic Regulations section of this calendar).
17-24 Sunday to Sunday	Reading Week. No lectures. University open (except Family Day).

APRIL, 2013

1 Monday	Law & Leaders in Medicine Graduate Students: Last day to submit masterâ€™s theses and doctoral dissertations to the Faculty of Graduate Studies or complete all degree requirements for May 2013 Convocation.
16 Tuesday	WINTER TERM LECTURES END. (For practicum students, the length of the term may be extended.) Last day to withdraw with permission from full courses or Winter Term half courses.
17 Wednesday	Last day to register for Spring term first-term half courses, six week and thirteen-week courses (Multi-term) courses with pre-session study.

22 Wednesday	Last day for registration and changes of registration for Spring term first-term half courses, six-week and thirteen-week courses (Multi-term) (without pre-session study). No fee refunds for withdrawals from Spring term first-term half courses, six week and thirteen-week courses (Multi-term) after this date.
24 Friday	Fee payment deadline for Spring term fees for first-term, six week, thirteen-week and second-term courses. All graduate students: Last day to submit your theses/dissertations to the Faculty of Graduate Studies or to complete all degree requirements in order to avoid fees being charged for Spring 2013.

JUNE, 2013

4 Tuesday	First-term final examinations for Spring Term. Last day to withdraw with permission from first-term half courses in Spring term.
5 Wednesday	First-term final examinations for Spring Term. Last day for registration and changes of registration for Summer Term courses (with pre-session study).
6 Thursday	Lectures begin for the second-term of Spring Term.
10 Monday	Last day for registration and changes of registration for Spring Term second-term half courses (without pre-session study). No fee refunds for withdrawals from Spring Term second-term half courses after this date.
10-14 Monday to Friday	Spring (June) Convocation for all faculties except Law and Medicine.
26 Wednesday	SPRING TERM LECTURES END. Last day to withdraw with permission from full courses, half courses given over a six-week period and second-term half courses in Spring Term.
27-29 Thursday-Saturday	Spring Term Final Examinations except first-term courses.
