IoT and Signal Processing

Research

Robust wireless communications

Wireless communications via protocols (Wifi, Bluetooth, LoRa, ZigBee and amateur radio) which are used in today’s IoT devices are subject to many factors that can reduce its performance. Novel processing schemes are developed improve the robustness and quality of IoT.

Signal processing

We investigate and develop novel chaotic and signal processing techniques for applications such as surveillance and sensor networks. For "through-the-wall imaging", we proposed a novel chaos-based pulse amplitude modulated ultra-wideband (CPAM-UWB) waveform for through-the-wall radar imaging and detection, since UWB waveform offers good wall-penetration and range resolution.

Wireless sensor networks

We have developed municipal LoRAWAN wireless network technology with the City of Calgary. This technology allows the City to wirelessly monitor devices that are difficult to access while being more cost effective than cellular networks, and provide measurements about the environment.
