Microorganisms can both utilize minerals as oxidants and as a source of nutrients, but it also appears they can utilize selected mineral phases for energy production and other processes. This collaborative project between engineers and scientists seeks to examine how such bio-nano-biological constructs evolved and how knowledge of this may help in the development of technologies to benefit the environment and human kind.
