Orientation and Training


All faculty, students, and staff at the Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà have a shared responsibility for maintaining a safe and healthy work and learning environment.ÌýCompletion of theÌýÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýÌýis mandatory forÌýallÌýemployees.ÌýHealth and safety responsibilities have been defined for employees, managers, visitors, and contractors in the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS).Ìý

AnÌýemployeeÌýis an individual who is a worker as defined under the OHS Act and includes both university employees and non-employees such as postdoctoral scholars and students who are performing work on behalf of the university or their instructor. The definition of an employee can be found in theÌýOccupational Health and Safety Policy.

To ensure all new hires know their rights and responsibilities for maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, individuals will automatically beÌýenrolled into the most current version ofÌýthese online training courses (EHS013_2016 and EHS008_2016).ÌýIn addition,ÌýallÌýmanagers and supervisors are required to complete theÌý.

Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) offers an extensive range of online and classroom based training programs through PS Enterprise Learning. Completion of suchÌýtraining(s) are determined by your manager/supervisor onÌýaÌýHazard Assessment andÌýControl Form (HACF) for yourÌýjob description/laboratory/workshop.


Health and Safety Orientation Checklists

Supervisors and managersÌýare responsible for completing site-specific health and safety orientation checklists with newÌýandÌýtransferred employeesÌý(direct reports) to address critical health and safety issues before starting their normal job responsibilities. The revised Site-specific HealthÌýand Safety Orientation Checklist isÌýto be used going forward with new hires only. If the checklistÌýhas already been completed, there is currently no expectation toÌýre-conduct the orientationÌýwith employees.
