Hearing ConservationThe University strives to control excessive noise levels; however, certain locations and/or operations may expose personnel to significant noise levels. Portable ladders are one of the handiest, simplest tools that we use. However, careless or improper ladder usage results in many accidents and fatalities each year. Respiratory ProtectionMany workplaces contain airborne hazards that you may not be able to see or smell. Inhaling these can affect your health. This online course has been designed to ensure that workers learn to recognize airborne hazards and know how to protect themselves. This course will cover information on the types of airborne hazards, how the respiratory system works, respirator types and selection, proper use of a respirator, fit testing, respirator inspection, cleaning and storage, limitations of respirators and employee responsibilities.30 minutesOnline

This course covers the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) which is the chemical hazard communication system for workplaces in Canada, which ensures that people have the information they need to work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials.Ìý

WHMIS training is a legislative requirement for all people who work with or around controlled products such as chemicals and biohazardous materials. Canada has aligned the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), and this course will discuss the requirements coming from this alignment. This course provides attendees the information on how this system works in their day to day activities. WHMIS training from organizations other than the Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà is not recognized.Ìý

Workplace Inspections

All employees at the Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà have a shared responsibility for maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. As part of the University's Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS), responsibilities for health and safety have been defined for employees, supervisors and managers.

Formal inspections provide a way to identify and correct potentially hazardous conditions at the workplace. All individuals who conduct inspections need to be trained and familiar with the work areas being inspected.

The purpose of the this training is to inform university employees about the inspection processes at the Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà and how to meet the requirements of the University's OHSMS.
