Our Infrastructure
The Seaman Family MR CentreÌý(SFMRC) is housed in a 800 m2Ìýresearch facility located between Foothills Medical Centre and the Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà Faculty of Medicine. There are two MR scanners locatedÌýwithin the Centre, both of whichÌýare dedicated research instruments.
- 3 T Diagnostic MR ScannerÌý(in commercial partnership with General Electric Healthcare)
- 3 T Intra-operative MR ScannerÌý(in commercial partnership with IMRIS)
TheÌýHotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI) provides support to the activities of the SFMRC through theÌýNeuroImaging Research UnitÌý(NIRU) for EEG and fMRI experiments, and through the Hopewell Professorship in Brain Imaging forÌýBrain Imaging activities.

Vascular Imaging Laboratory
A 50m2 laboratory devoted to experimental and clinical imaging. Within this facility is minor surgical equipment, anesthetic and monitoring equipment and an x-ray C-arm for guiding non-invasive procedures using vascular catheters.
Imaging Laboratory for Functional Recovery
The Imaging Laboratory for Functional Recovery uses functional MR imaging (fMRI) and electroencephalography (EEG) to study brain function in patients with stroke, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease.
Image Analysis and Archival Facility
The computing infrastructure in the Seaman Family Centre was initially developed in 2002 and forms the backbone of our image analysis and assessment capabilities. The software cornerstone of this infrastructure is our research PACS (picture archiving and communications system) from Intelerad.
