Note: History 201, Greek and Roman Studies 205, and Latin 201, 203 are recommended first-year courses.
1. Language requirement: Two full-course equivalents in Latin.
2. Major field requirements:
(a) All of Greek and Roman Studies 341, 345, 347, History 319, 321, 323, 498. This requirement constitutes the core program.
(b) At least one full-course equivalent from History 325, 423, 505.
(c) At least one full-course equivalent from Greek and Roman Studies 415, 417, 419.
(d) One half-course equivalent in directed readings (History 597).
(e) One full-course equivalent in thesis work (History 598).
(f) Courses from the following list, sufficient to bring the total number of required courses in the field to eight full-course equivalents: Greek and Roman Studies 335, 337, 339, 413, 421, 423, 425, 433, 491, 494, History 325, 334, 371, 373, 379, 415.01, 421.01, 474, 477.01, Philosophy 503, Religious Studies 337, 357, 369, 383, 385, 387, 485, 487 or appropriate special topic/directed reading courses.
Note: For courses outside the Departments of Greek and Roman Studies and History, students should carefully check the pre-requisite requirements as all of these courses have at least one and in some cases multiple pre-requisite requirements.
