The education profession is changing constantly in response to a rapidly increasing body of knowledge about teaching and learning. In addition, the effectiveness of teachers depends to a large degree upon their ability to understand and address in a proactive manner the strong social, political, economic, and cultural influences upon education. Therefore, the Faculty's programs are designed and modified continuously to prepare and support teachers with a strong background in the subject disciplines and whose first commitment is to providing students with the best possible opportunity to learn.
Programs in the Faculty are based on the belief that teachers' professional knowledge and skills are developed best in a context that includes collaborative and independent learning,Ìý both small- and large-group scholarly activities, and participation in field experiences.
