Innovation@UCalgary
UCalgary enables the innovation cycle from discovery to deployed solutions by promoting a culture of innovation within our community. Innovation is part of the broad spectrum of research and application activity at UCalgary, and links discovery, creativity, invention and entrepreneurship to solve local, national and global societal challenges. The program includes the Hunter Hub, Innovate Calgary, a clinical trials accelerator, W21C and The Creative Destruction Lab. The University Innovation Quarter provides an interface between the university and community entrepreneurs and industry.
Ward of the 21st Century Healthcare Research Innovation
Ward of the 21st Century (W21C) is a not-for-profit research and innovation initiative based in the UCalgary and the Calgary zone of Alberta Health Services. W21C serves as a collaborative space that enables researchers and industry to bring new ideas, prototypes or products for testing in pre-clinical and clinical environments.

13 Week Course Inspires Future Engineering Innovators
Research associates in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering, along with members from other faculties, developed a comprehensive 13-week course that covers the full spectrum of research and innovation for second-year undergraduate students in the chemical engineering program. Innovation Untold
The Innovation Untold contest, a collaboration between Innovation@UCalgary and a senior-level communication and media studies course, invites undergraduate and graduate students to capture the story of a UCalgary innovator in a compelling three-minute video, podcast or another creative format. Cash prizes are available for the winning videos, and the contest allows students to gain hands-on communication experience while shining the light on innovators' work. Learn more and here.

Trico Foundation Social Entrepreneurship Centre at Haskayne
The Trico Foundation Social Entrepreneurship Centre provides graduate students with experiential learning initiatives focused on social entrepreneurship and helps position Calgary and the Haskayne School of Business as Canada's hub for social entrepreneurship education.
Campus and Community Impact
Local
The GreenSTEM project is a pan-Alberta pilot to provide funding and support for technology company creation and high-tech entrepreneurial development. UCalgary hosts cohorts of entrepreneurially-inclined, technically skilled postgraduate participants from across the province who are working on technologies with emissions reductions potential. UCalgary is also running parallel programs in the life sciences and energy areas using the same model.
National
Indigenous Knowledge Public Lecture Series hosted an event on building relationships and business in a good way, with a call to consider Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action before making any development proposals to a First Nation.
International
An 11-student team led by a faculty member in the Schulich School of Engineering designed and installed a new solar energy system in an off-grid community in Peru. The project was developed in conjunction with Light Up The World - a Calgary-based non-profit, and with IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology – an international organization that partners with under served communities to leverage technology for sustainable development.
