This Major is for students with talent in performance who plan to become professional instrumentalists or singers. Admission as a Major in Performance will depend on an audition before a faculty jury at the end of the first or second year. Upon admission into this Major the student will maintain a "B" or better for lessons and be examined each Spring to determine continuance or advancement in the program.

The BMus in Performance requires the successful completion of the following program of study, which includes 14.5 to 17.0 full-course equivalents in the Field of Music:
First Year: Common Program for all BMus Majors
- Music 211, 213 and 225
- Music 231 and 233
- Music 221 and 223
- One of Music Performance 201, 203, 205, 211, 213 or 215
- 0.5 full-course equivalent in non-Music options.
- 0.5 full-course equivalent in open options
- Pass piano proficiency examination or successfully complete Music 127
- One of Music 101, 102, 103 or 104
Second Year
- Music 331 and 333
- One of Music Performance 321, 323, 325, 327 or 341
- One of Music Performance 301, 303, 305, 311, 313 or 315
- Music 321 and 323
- Music 311, 313, and 325
- 0.5 full-course equivalent in non-Music options
- One of Music 101, 102, 103 or 104
Third Year
- 0.5 full-course equivalent in Music History and Literature at the 300 level or above.
- 0.5 full-course equivalent in Composition, Sonic Art or Theory at the 300 level or above
