Get Involved

Interested in student wellness and contributing to a supportive campus community?  We have a number of competitive student leadership volunteer opportunities open to UCalgary students. 

Student Wellness Services peer helper positions are filled in the fall semester, with a limited number of positions opening for the winter semester.   


Healthcare Assistant Peer Helper

Healthcare Assistant Peer Helper provides support to the health services within the Student Wellness Services. The tasks include medical reception and assisting with patient flow through the clinic, filling and tidying exam rooms, stocking supplies throughout clinic and assisting with clerical supports as necessary.

Wellness Peer Education Team Peer Helper

Wellness Peer Education Team Peer Helpers deliver 5-minute presentations that instructors can request to have at the start of their classes. During the presentations, peer helpers share their experiences as a student which normalizes experiences with mental health and academic challenges and promotes help seeking. 

Wellness Events and Outreach Team Peer Helper

Wellness Events and Outreach Team Peer Helpers help to organize and promote events and initiatives on campus. The tasks include educating students about important topics such as mental health, sexual health, nutrition, and physical activity, planning and participating in campus-wide programs and events, and hosting wellness and social events. 

Peer Support Team Peer Helper

Peer Support Team Peer Helpers provide supportive listening to students wanting to connect with other students, or who are seeking support for personal and/or academic concerns. They utilize empathy and active listening skills and provide students with information about additional resources as needed.

  • Application for fall 2024 is closed. A limited number of positions will be recruited for winter 2025.

Student Medical Response (SMR) Peer Helper

The Student Medical Response team is a 100% student volunteer run and organized group providing qualified and skilled pre-hospital emergency medical care to eligible Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà community events.

Occupational Health & Safety Orientation for Volunteers

Under the Alberta Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) legislation, all first-time applicants to any Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà department are required to complete online training about their rights and responsibilities for complying with health and safety regulation. More information and further instruction about the Volunteer OHS Orientation will be provided upon submission of your application.Â
