Internationally, Black people in Caribbean, South American, European, African, and North
American countries have been making strides conceptualizing, assessing, and treating mental
health and illness in our communities.
Nonetheless, there remain existing challenges addressing mental health stigma inclusive of
miseducation on mental health and illness and limited culturally relevant and applicable mental
health care options for our children up to our older adults. In conjunction with community
members and organizations, our Black mental health professionals and students aspiring to
pursue this career pathway, continue to work hard to address these gaps.
