Biography

I graduated from Wetaskiwin Composite High School in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, as the valedictorian for attaining the highest academic average in my graduating class. I was also awarded the Governor General’s Academic Medal for my academic achievements. Beyond academics, I was involved in student leadership, serving as an executive on my school’s Student Council for three years and as President in grade twelve. With this role, I helped revitalize school spirit post-pandemic and collaborated with peers to organize fundraisers that raised thousands for various charity organizations. My extracurricular involvement extended beyond my school community. I served on the Kids Help Phone (KHP) National Youth Council and was selected as the Youth Advisor for the KHP Resources Around Me Rebuild Project. With this position, I contributed to a website that would help individuals across Canada, including those living in marginalised communities, to find and access in-person and virtual mental health resources. Additionally, as a member of the AboutFace Youth Advisory Council, I participated in webinars, developed educational resources, and organized initiatives to reduce the stigma associated with facial differences. One summer, I also volunteered multiple times each week to host science experiments for children attending the Boys and Girls Club Summer Day Camp. I was also an avid volunteer at the Hussaini Canadian Educational and Cultural Association, where I assisted in distributing treats during Eid celebrations, cleaning the facility, and helping the elders of the community. Furthermore, I was a founding member of the Society for AI Literacy, a nonprofit with the goal of providing a platform for AI discussion and educating youth on the dangers of AI reliance.

I chose to study neuroscience because of my fascination with the complexities of the nervous system and the biological origins of mental illness. In particular, I was drawn to the hands-on and interdisciplinary nature of the program at the Áù¾ÅÉ«ÌÃ. Throughout undergrad, I hope to pursue research in mental health-related fields, to learn more about the causes of mental illness and contribute to the development of treatments with less concerning side-effects. Furthermore, I hope to be involved in research related to the cause and effects of neurological disorders, such as multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury. Overall, out of my undergrad experience, I hope to get a more comprehensive understanding of the nervous system and its behaviour.

I am hoping to pursue a career in the healthcare sector so that I can spend my life doing what I value the most: serving my community.

My mother and father have always gone out of their way to help others, and their kindness and generosity have been the driving force and inspiration behind my own commitment to serving my community.
