Types of Awards

The Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà offers a number of different awards to meet the needs of our students. Here are some definitions to clarify the different types of awards.


Scholarship

Awarded primarily on the basis of academic merit. In order to be eligible for a scholarship, you must have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.20 on a minimum 24 units in the previous fall and winter terms or a 75% for entering students.

Bursary

Awarded primarily on the basis of academic merit and financial need. In order to be eligible for a bursary, you must achieve a minimum grade point average of 2.00 on a minimum of 24 units in the previous fall and winter terms or a 65% for entering students.

Award

Awarded on a variety of criteria in addition to academic standing. For example, community service, leadership, volunteerism etc. In order to be eligible for an award, you must achieve a minimum grade point average (GPA varies) on a minimum of 24 units in the previous fall and winter terms or 70% for entering students.

Award is also a generic term used when speaking about the different types of recognition available.

Athletic

Provided to a student based primarily on contribution to a Dinos athletic team. In order to be eligible for an athletic award, you must have achieved a minimum grade point average of 2.00 on a minimum of 18 units in the previous fall and winter terms or 80% for entering students.

Prize

Given in recognition of a specific superior accomplishment. Prizes may take the form of items such as books, plaques, periodical subscriptions, or may also be monetary.

Medal

Gold medals are awarded to the student graduating with the highest distinction in each faculty. Silver medallions may be awarded to the student graduating with the highest distinction in a department or equivalent unit.

Each faculty determines its definition of distinction and guidelines for selection of medal recipients, with consideration to: grade point average, course load, and minimum number of university units taken.
